Tuesday, September 30th, 2008 | Posted by iLL-Literacy | Categories: News, Video

Here’s some behind-the-scenes footage of us after rehearsals on Sunday. Dahlak snatched up the stems for Kanye’s “Love Lockdown” and is putting together his remix as a last-minute addition to his next solo project, Live from the Boondocks: Commencement.

Drops in November.  Make room in your hard drive.

Wednesday, September 24th, 2008 | Posted by iLL-Literacy | Categories: News, Video, iLL-Events, iLL-Homies, iLL-Shows

Fall is well on its way and we’re just weeks away from the Natural Electricity Tour!  Before we hit the road though, we’ll be making a stop at Berkeley’s La Pena Cultural Center opening up for our homies The Park.  We’ve got a short slot, but it’s a nice lil appetizer for the full set that we’ll be touring, and oh yes, we will be debuting some of the brand new songs that we’ve been cooking up in the lab!

Click here to RSVP for the show on the 4th, and then peep the footage of The Park’s last show in Berkeley:

ILL-HOMIE: Vision

Friday, September 19th, 2008 | Posted by iLL-Literacy | Categories: Audio, iLL-Homies

Maybe one day iLL-Literacy will give into the big record industry machine and sign to a label that assigns a trained chimpanzee from Turkey to manage our Myspace page.  But in the meantime, yes we do check our own account, and although sometimes we’re logging in at 3am after a night of debauchery and therefore unable to respond promptly/coherently, we do read everything that is sent our way.

Vision is one of those refreshing discoveries–a 19-year-old emcee hailing from Detroit who hit us up and ended up impressing the hell out of us.  Check out this track “Lights, Camera, Action” and you’ll see what we’re talking about…a fresh beat, smooth on the mic, and just enough vocoder to accent it without being T-Painful.

Check out more Vision here.  Look out for this one, yo!

VIDEO: Saul Williams - “DNA”

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008 | Posted by iLL-Literacy | Categories: Press, Video, iLL-Homies, iLL-Shows

Judging from the pings from our post last month, it appears that the iLL-Lit blog has also come to double as Saul Central. Not that we have a problem with it…it’s a lonely world for us kinda-spoken-word-but-not-really artists out there, and we must stick together!

This is the new video for “DNA,” arguably the sickest track off Saul Williams’ The Inevitable Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust. Watch it, love it, and incorporate it…into your DNA (you know you saw it coming).

In the meantime, here’s a tiny tiny glimpse of what we’ve been whipping up every Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday in Sacramento–Dahlak and our drummer OJ working on the remix to “Hey Girl” off Dahlak’s Dual Consciousness:

This upcoming week is jumping with concerts in the Bay! We’re met with the ginormous challenge of juggling all these hot shows with our rehearsals in Sac three times a week, but we gon’ make it work!!!!!

First, the dopealicious duo J*Davey heads north from LA to DNA Lounge on Sunday! Cop your tix here.

But for those of you backpacker types who aren’t so into the spazzed-out electrofunk stuff, head over to the Fillmore on Thursday as Oakland natives Hieroglyphics are joined by our iLL-homies Blue ScholarsBuy your tickets.

And then for you backpackers who ARE into spazzed-out electrofunkish muzak, Common and NERD hit Berkeley on Saturday, and oh yes, it shall be bananas. Tix! Tix! Tix!

And lastly, for you who like spazzed-out music, and enjoy it best dancing in the mud around sweaty, hairy people (we know you’re out there!) check out the Treasure Island Music Festival, where helllllllllla bands are playing.  Get your tickets, you baller, you.

In the meantime, iLL-Literacy froths at the mouth like baited dogs, anticipating that Natural Electricity Tour whose dates are to be announced very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very very soon.

ILL-AUDIO: Adriel interviews DISGRASIAN & Hopie Spitshard on The Pretty Buoyant Show

Friday, September 12th, 2008 | Posted by iLL-Literacy | Categories: Audio, News, iLL-Homies

Last night Adriel returned to the Pretty Buoyant Show on KPFA, with a hot and steamy interview with Jen and Diana of DISGRASIAN, where topics of discussion included Amerrka not being phazed by 9/11, meeting Bill O’Reilly at the RNC, and the new cold war with Russia via a battle between GWAR and Sabretooth.

Also on the lineup, puppetmaster-turned-emcee Hopie Spitshard discusses her new album The Diamond Dame, and drops some gems for us (geeet it? geeeet it??)

LISTEN.

ILL-HOMIE: Bambu’s …exact change… LP out now!

Friday, September 12th, 2008 | Posted by iLL-Literacy | Categories: iLL-Homies

There’s such a sense of freedom when skateboarding while wearing a fresh crispy pair of Dickies.  Can’t really describe it–probably because I’ve never done it.  BUT Bambu has!  And you know what else he’s done??  Dropped a dope as 3rd LP, that’s what.  And you can cop it right now, at this very second, at beatrock.com and fine record stores throughout the Bay.  So kick, push, and get your ass out there and get yours!
