Day 49: Ruby- New York, NY
Sorry, sorry, sorry! I'm soooo sooo late, but I can't help it, I swear. Internet access and time is hard to come by with the boys and I in transit, so I apologize for messing up the rotation. The tour has been a bit crazy, with us shuttling from Ithaca to NYC to Seattle, and now, coming live from Vancouver, Canada. I'm not in the country, whoa nellie! Anyway, here's a lil somethin for my home on the East. Oh how I've missed you, New York...
Hello Brooklyn
How you doin
Raised an iL(L) in the sky like Jigga
Cause I'm feelin it
Sparked California on the Brooklyn Bridge
last fourth of July
Merged both homes inside me in one breath
Last summer is when I've felt the most freedom, consequently
It's February and I'm coming off the Holland Tunnel
To greet you again
In your city of flesh and metal
Concrete and asphalt kissing smoke into sky
How I've missed you, New Yawwwk
You are pale knuckles and rounded vowels
Sometimes I thought we were kindred
Cause you're as crowded as my thoughts
You loved me tough
Your temperaments came in schizophrenic proportions
Had me jerking between Babel and back
Inside a 24 hour cusp
Hop, sweat, sunk into those subway rides
Could hear the metal screeching like monsters
Beneath my feet
New York City, where we grind like teeth
Inside the mouth of the beast
On calm days
I could hear her purr
When she heaves
Brought me back to the West Side
With 'mad' on my tongue
Remnants in exchange for her teaching me
How to lick my own wounds
She made a warrior out of me,
Thank you
